About Cherry Tomato ‘Ildi’ (Solanum lycopersicum)
‘Ildi’ is an early cherry tomato for growers who want a lot of small, sweet fruit from one plant. The tomatoes are yellow, plum-shaped and juicy, and each one weighs about 15 g. What really sets ‘Ildi’ apart is the size of its trusses, because a single bunch can carry 50 to 80 fruits.
The fruit is lovely eaten straight off the plant or tossed into a salad, and it can also be preserved. A packet holds 0.2 g of seed, which is roughly 80 to 100 seeds, so there is plenty to share with a friend.
Where ‘Ildi’ Fits Best
I want to be upfront about this one. ‘Ildi’ is a tall tomato that reaches 150 to 180 cm, so it is not a variety for a countertop smart garden and it will outgrow even the tallest LetPot models. It belongs in a greenhouse, outdoors in a sunny spot or in a large container on a warm, bright balcony, with a stake or string to climb.
If you are looking for a tomato to grow indoors under a grow light, have a look at our dwarf tomato seeds instead. For the greenhouse or the balcony, ‘Ildi’ is a rewarding pick among our cherry tomato seeds.

Growing Tips
Sow the seeds indoors in March or April and move the seedlings into their own pots once they have their first true leaves. When the nights are warm, plant them in the greenhouse or into a large container, give each plant a sturdy stake or string and keep them in full sun.
The supplier’s watering advice is simple and worth following. Water generously once or twice a week in the first half of the day, using water that is not cold. Pick the fruit regularly as the trusses ripen and the plant will keep cropping into September.
