Vertical planters are designed to grow plants upward rather than outward, making them an efficient solution when floor or counter space is limited but wall or vertical space is available. They work well for herbs, strawberries, trailing plants, and smaller leafy greens, and can turn a bare wall or balcony rail into a productive growing surface without requiring major installation. What we have found is that vertical planters work best with a consistent watering approach — either drip irrigation from the top or a self-watering design — since lower pockets can dry out faster than upper ones if the system relies on hand watering alone.
